MANILA - The husband of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo still sits as a board member of the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), its chief said Thursday.

TIEZA chief operating officer Pocholo Paragas said Roberto Teo represents the travel and tours section of the agency.

"Yes, he is part of the board [in a] holdover status. Ngayon (now), being part of the board, he handles a lot of dealings pertaining to policy making," Paragas told radio DZMM.

"Siya po ay (he is a) private sector representative. He represents (sic), if I’m not mistaken, the travel and tours section since 2014."

TIEZA serves as the infrastructure arm of the Department of Tourism.

President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Roberto Teo as a board member of the Land Bank of the Philippines Leasing and Finance Corp in June 2017, supposedly following his TIEZA stint.

The TIEZA official website shows Roberto Teo heads the agency's audit committee and is part of all other committees.

This contradicts the statement of Special Assistant to the President Bong Go to radio DZMM on Wednesday that the tourism chief's husband has left his post at the government agency.

"Itong si Mr. Teo po ay hindi na po siya nagtatrabaho yata diyan sa attached agency ng TIEZA... parang another board po yata siya ngayon. Wala na po siya sa TIEZA," he said.

(Mr. Teo is no longer working there, I think, in the attached agency of TIEZA, I think [he works in] another board now. He is no longer with TIEZA.)

"Kung ako tatanungin niyo po, siyempre may delicadeza dun, dapat wala ka dun sa ahensiya na under sa asawa mo diba?"

(If you ask me, out of delicadeza, I shouldn't be in an agency under my wife's department, right?)

The statements were made following reports that Roberto Teo's post under his wife's agency constituted conflict of interest.

The tourism secretary has been under fire after the Commission on Audit flagged P60 million worth of her department's ads in her siblings' television program "Kilos Pronto" on state-run PTV-4.
