TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental - A megamouth shark was found dead at the shoreline in Barangay Baluarte, this town on Monday morning.

The shark was estimated to be 3 meters long, 1.5-meters wide and weighed approximately 600 kilograms. It sustained a wound in its body.

Jojo Layan, a fisherman and resident at the area said, he already noticed the shark early dawn, but did not bother to touch nor check it. Instead he waited for it to leave until they found it dead.

Fishery Technician Designate of the Municipality Joan Espinosa said they immediately buried the fish this morning because they fear that the residents might cook it for food.

"It is not fit for human consumption, because we don't know yet the cause of its death. Its meat may be contaminated," Espinosa said.

Two years ago, the same kind of fish was also seen in the same area.
