MANILA - Temperatures in Subic, Zambales reached 39.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the hottest so far this year, the state weather bureau said.

Temperatures across the country are expected to rise further as PAGASA declared the start of the dry season last week, with the end of the "Amihan" season that is characterized by cool winds, said weather observer Leni Ruiz.

Records showed that the temperature in Subic already rose to 38 degrees Celsius last Saturday, while the temperature in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan also reached 38.4 degrees Sunday.

In its Monday forecast, PAGASA said temperatures in Metro Manila could go as high as 34 degrees.
