CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - Security was tightened at the port area here after Abu Sayyaf extremists clashed with the military in neighboring Bohol island.

Bohol, a major tourism hub, is around 5 hours by boat from this city, one of the main commercial hubs in Mindanao.

Passengers undergo frisking and x-ray checks before they are allowed to board their ships, which are inspected by bomb-sniffing dogs.

Security officials here are on the highest alert.
