MANILA - Expect warmer days ahead since summer has officially begun.

State weather bureau PAGASA on Tuesday declared the beginning of the dry season with the end of the cool northeast monsoon or "Amihan."

"Expected day-to-day weather will become warmer and drier in most parts of the country due to the dominance of the ridge of High Pressure Area and the easterlies," Vicente Malano, PAGASA administrator, said in a statement.

Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms however may still occur in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA last year announced the start of summer season on April 5.
The office made the same announcement in March for 2012 to 2016.

The effect of the amihan may have been prolonged this year by a "weak" La Niña condition characterized by the unusually cool ocean surface temperatures in the central and eastern equatorial Pacific.
