MANILA - House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez on Thursday admitted to having "many" children out of wedlock, after conceding that he was in an extra-marital relationship.

Speaking on DZMM Teleradyo, Alvarez said he has a total of 8 children, 6 of whom are out of wedlock.

"Nung first marriage ko, meron akong 2 anak. 'Yung second, apat (na anak). Tapos meron pa, dalawa," he said.

(From my first marriage, I have two kids. From the second, four. Then I have 2 more.)

He added that he does not have children with his current partner.

"Meron po (akong anak sa labas), marami. Pero hindi sa relationship ko ngayon," Alvarez said.

(I have children out of wedlock, many. But not with my current partner.)

"Okay na 'yung magsabi ng totoo. Mahirap 'yung magsinungaling, magbuhol-buhol pa tayo," he also said.

(It's better to tell the truth than tell lies. We'll get all tied up.)

Davao del Norte Rep. Tony Boy Floirendo's partner, Cathy Binag, has identified Alvarez's current girlfriend as Jennifer Maliwanag Vicencio, with whom she had a spat last year during Bacolod's Masskara Festival.

Alvarez, likewise, said he is willing to answer disbarment complaints on account of his extra-marital affairs.

"Hindi ko naman pwedeng sabihin na hindi totoo 'yang kwento na 'yan. Eh di mag-file ng disbarment, sasagutin ko din 'yan," he said.

He also reiterated that he has been estranged from his legal wife, Emelita Apostol Alvarez.
