MANILA - Seven Mindanoans ranked among the top 10 graduates of Philippine National Police Academy's (PNPA) Masidlak Class of 2017.

Leading the top 10 was Cadet Macdum Enca from Cotabato province in central Mindanao.

Enca said in a press briefing Thursday that he hopes to set a good example as a Muslim and change unfair perceptions of his religion.

Meanwhile, Cadet Maysy Villaflor Cataquiz -- the lone female in the PNPA's top ten -- said she wants to encourage more women to enroll in the academy.

Masidlak's top graduates, before facing the media, paid a courtesy call on PNP chief Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa at Camp Crame, a day before their graduation rites at Camp Castañeda.

Dela Rosa reminded the graduates not to be choosy with their assignments and to remain honest and true to the service.

Six out of the top 10 graduates will join PNP, 2 will enter the Bureau of Fire Protection and another 2 will join the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

The 144 members of the class, Dela Rosa said, will undergo additional training before field deployment.

Meanwhile, as the school year ends, a new batch of aspiring policemen will enter the PNPA, including Rock Dela Rosa, the youngest and only son of the national police chief.

The country's top cop said that although he is confident of his son's physical competence, he is nervous for the psychological challenges that his unico hijo may face.

He said he joined the Philippine Military Academy as the son of a tricycle driver while his son is joining the PNPA as the child of a sitting PNP chief.
