LAMITAN CITY, Basilan – Residents of 5 barangays in Lamitan City started to return to their homes Saturday as floodwaters began to subside.

The last rescue operation was held Friday night in Barangay Baluno. At least 200 residents were rescued by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

Residents of Barangay Kulay Bato meanwhile said floodwaters rose to 20 meters Friday night, and reached the national highway. Rushing water destroyed a portion of the slope protecting the highway.

An initial report from the CDRRMO said that the flood affected at least 2,000 families. They were provided with relief goods by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
