Sombero stayed in Vancouver for more than three weeks, skipping previous Senate hearings. His lawyer had said that he was not allowed to board a plane from Canada due to health problems.

Sombero earlier admitted he had planned to file for a refugee claim in Canada because of threats to his life, but family and friends like Senator Manny Pacquiao and journalist Ramon Tulfo convinced him to return to the Philippines to face the inquiry.

Sombero also defended the people in the immigration counter when he left the country last January 17.

He said he was only able to secure a clearance to leave because his passport bears the name "Wenceslao" and not "Wally Sombero", which was the name on the immigration lookout bulletin.

Though refusing to give further details, Sombero said he has text messages and other pieces of evidence that would illustrate how his meeting with the BI officials started and how money entered the picture.
