Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said he wishes nothing on his birthday but for erring police officers to change their ways.

“Birthday wish ko lang sana yung mga sindikato ng kapulisan magbago na. Ito lang ang wish ko,” Dela Rosa, who is celebrating his birthday Saturday, said in a video shared on his Facebook page.

(I hope criminal elements in the police force would change their ways. That's my only wish.)

“Ako, kahit na aalis ako ngayong araw na ito, basta lang magbago yung mga sira ulo nating kasamahan,” he added, noting that he puts the PNP first before his personal needs.

(I don't care if I leave today, as long as those lunatics change their ways.)

Dela Rosa is facing criticism over the death of South Korean businessman Ick Joo Jee inside Camp Crame. Calls for Dela Rosa to resign had netizens abuzz with the hashtag #BatoResign.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alavarez on Friday also joined the call for Dela Rosa to leave his post as PNP chief to save President Rodrigo Duterte from further embarrassment.

“Baka akala nila talaga nag-eenjoy ako sa pagka-chief PNP sabi nila gusto nila magresign ako, I can do that any time. Frankly speaking, di ko ho pinangarap itong pwesto na ito. Ito po’y binigay sa akin at alam ko yung paglagay sa akin dito may mission si Lord sa akin,” Dela Rosa said.

(They probably think my position as PNP chief is a source of enjoyment for me. They tell me to resign and I can do that any time. Frankly speaking, I didn't wish to be in this position. This was given to me and I know I was placed here because God has a mission for me.)
