MANILA, Philippines – Two suspected burglars were killed in a police shootout in Quezon City early morning Monday.

The two suspects were shot dead at the corner of Sandico and F. Ventura Streets in BF Homes Subdivision, Barangay Holy Spirit, according to Col. Ronnie Montejo, chief of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 6.

ABS-CBN News reporter Jay Ruiz, who lives in the same barangay, positively identified one of the two slain suspects as one of those who broke into his house and took off with some valuable items last week.

“Lumalabas iyung CCTV (closed-circuit television) [footage] na nakuha natin, kamukhang-kamukha nitong isa sa mga nakahandusay sa ngayon dito sa BF Homes. Medyo nakakalungkot, and at the same time, para akong nabunutan ng tinik,” Ruiz told radio dzMM.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) personnel found several identification cards belonging to Ruiz’s wife inside the suspects’ getaway vehicle, a red Toyota Innova.

Other IDs of the suspects’ victims were also found inside the car, which was parked near the area where the suspects were shot dead.

“Kasama sa mga nawala sa bahay namin isang box ng Yakult. Tapos dito sa loob ng Innova na ito may mga Yakult din. Siguro iniinom nila habang nagmamanman sa mga bahay-bahay,” Ruiz said.

He said two other cohorts of the slain suspects were able to escape, according to the police.

Montejo, meanwhile, said the shootout occurred after subdivision security guards reported suspicious men roaming around the subdivision on board the Innova (TKI 245) at 5:30 a.m.

The Innova had no back registration plate.

The slain suspects remain unidentified. Police recovered two guns near their bodies.

On Sunday, thieves also broke into St. Peter’s Shrine along Commonwealth Avenue and took off with a gold cross, a chalice, and other valuable items. – report from Dennis Datu, dzMM
