MANILA, Philippines – Erwan Heussaff, known to many as the brother of actress-model Solenn Heussaff and the main squeeze of Kapamilya star Anne Curtis, has often been labeled as a foodie and a chef.
But he said he doesn’t want any of that.
“I’m not a chef. For me, a chef is someone that can really take the lead in the kitchen. Everyone who goes to cooking school, they don’t come out as a chef. I never went to culinary school, by the way,” Heussaff explained.
“And I don’t like the term foodie… I’m someone that tries everything. I’ve never said no to anything at all,” he added.

Instead, Heussaff said he wants to be referred to as "the man who insatiably tries and eats everything.” True enough, he has traveled the world to learn about different dishes -- from the simple to the exotic.
“I’ve eaten goat testicles. It’s actually not bad if you don’t think about what it is. I’ve mistakenly eaten dog without knowing it because I was living in Shanghai for a bit and they just basically force-fed it to me,” he shared.
“[I’ve also eaten] cobra heart in Vietnam. I try all the fun things that are tied into a country’s culture.”
Asked if there may be an exception, Heussaff stressed: “Nothing. I will eat anything. I will seriously eat anything.”
For a project with the Makati government and property giant Ayala Land Inc., Heussaff recently handpicked his favorite restaurants and pubs in the city, visited them all at once, and featured them in “video guides” which can be downloaded by curious food and drink enthusiasts.
Calling it the “food and pub crawl,” Heussaff said he got the concept from his travels.
“I’m a huge glutton. We actually shot the food video all in one day,” the Makati-born French-Filipino said. “But I really enjoyed it.”
Heussaff, who has a blog titled “The Fat Kid Inside” (www.thefatkidinside.com), said he always makes it a point to visit newly opened places, from posh restaurants to hole-in-the-wall joints.
“I make it a point to visit a place multiple times to see if it’s good,” he said.
Some of the restaurants and pubs that Heussaff has featured in his video guides are XO46 and Bar M in Salcedo Village, Sala Bistro, Cerveseria, Kai and M Café in Greenbelt, Murphy’s in Legaspi Village and Salon de Ning at The Peninsula Manila.

He hopes that his newest effort will encourage Filipinos to explore the city.
“The thing is, people normally go to the same places. We want to make everyone realize that there are a variety of places to go in Makati,” he said.
Aside from his blog and occasional projects, Heussaff is also a part of "Hot Guys Who Cook", a program on cable channel Diva Universal.
Despite his insatiable urge to try new things, Heussaff said he finds great joy in the simplest dishes.
Disregarding health concerns, he said he can eat potatoes every day for the rest of his life.
“I have a big love for potatoes. Anything – mashed, fried, they’re my grandfather’s favorite. We just eat it boiled with some salt and butter. It’s just fantastic.”
Heussaff also has a thing for noodles, pancakes and waffles.

“I’m a huge noodle person. I used to live in Vietnam and it’s one of my favorite things,” he said.
“I think simple dishes are sexy. I think pancakes are sexy. I think waffles are sexy, like with whipped cream and maple syrup.”
