MANILA - Maria Isabel Lopez is overwhelmed with the praise she has received since photos of the scene-stealing gown she wore at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival red carpet went viral on the Internet.

"Siyempre happy ako kasi napansin," said Lopez. "All these years I have been like this pero ngayon lang ako nag-command ng ganitong attention. And normally gumagawa ako ng kabogera news pag bad news pero this one is like good news."

Lopez, who is part of Brillante Mendoza's "Ma 'Rosa," was speaking to ABS-CBN News' MJ Felipe at a local fashion show where she flaunted the figure-hugging emerald gown she wore at the prestigious film festival last week. The gown was designed by Albert Andrada, who also created Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach's memorable blue dress.

"Para sa netizens, the Cannes Film Festival red carpet is just like the Miss Universe pageant when actually it's about the Brillante Mendoza film," said Lopez when asked about her newfound fame.

For the former beauty queen, the focus should be about "Ma 'Rosa" and Jaclyn Jose's Best Actress win, a first for a Filipina. Lopez, who represented the country in the 1982 Miss Universe pageant, said that she did not intend to stand out at the Cannes red carpet.

"Ganun din ang lakad ko sa red carpet ng SM Megamall and sa red carpet ng Cinemalaya. It's the same thing. It's just that the gown really made a lot of news," she added.
