MANILA - Unlike other beauty queens who had their farewell messages pre-recorded, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach has opted to deliver hers live at the Binibining Pilipinas 2016 pageant night.

Wurtzbach, who turned emotional as she delivers her farewell message, recalled her past experiences as a three-time candidate in the said pageant.

The beauty queen thanked the people who had been part of her journey as the country's third Miss Universe.

"In this moment, I'd like to express my sincerest gratitude to the people who helped me win Miss Universe. If it weren’t for you, I would have not achieved this humble achievement," Wurtzbach said.

Wurtzbach also took the opportunity to tell her successor to always do her best.

"To my successor, just remember to give your best... You have to proudly remember that you are wearing that sash that says 'Philippines.'"

As parting message, Wurtzbach gave a fitting tribute to Filipina beauty.

"Tonight, it's the beginning of a journey for a confidently beautiful Filipina. Mabuhay ang gandang Filipina. Mabuhay ang Filipina. Mabuhay tayong lahat!"
