MANILA, Philippines – Local hotel operator Victoria Court is hoping to attract more guests -- not just on Valentine’s Day -- by offering a variety of themed rooms that “transport them to a different reality.”

Its newest offering is called the “Red Room,” a reference to the Red Room of Pain in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” a novel known for its explicitly erotic scenes. The E. L. James book, which has sold millions of copies worldwide, has been labeled as “mommy porn.”

Other themed rooms are inspired by the movies “Austin Powers,” “X-Men,” “The Matrix,” “Moulin Rouge,” “The Dark Knight,” “Thor,” “Sex and the City 3,” and even the “James Bond” films.

“We wanted to transport our guests to a different reality as soon as they enter our gates. We strive to create memorable experiences for all our guests,” said Victoria Court’s Tanya Llana, adding that the rooms are not only used by couples but also by groups for stag and bachelorette parties, and even birthday celebrations.

Austin Powers, which was launched seven years ago, remains the most popular themed room in Victoria Court, Llana said, as well as “Embassy,” which is made to look like the club in Taguig City (which has been closed and reconceptualized); and the “Oval Office,” which was inspired by the affair of former US President Bill Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

While each themed room is unique, Llana said some common features include an LCD TV, a mini bar, a surround sound and karaoke system and a jacuzzi. The hotel also offers a variety of food and drinks.

“For parties, we also have upon request XBox Kinect, a beer pong table and poker sets. Some party suites also have poles for stag and bachelorette parties,” she said.

Asked how Victoria Court selects themes for its special rooms, Llana said: “We have focus group discussions asking different types of markets their dream suites and party themes. We consider guest delight and experience.”
