MANILA - Miss Universe Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach on Tuesday reacted to a video showing a Colombian burning her effigy to celebrate New Year's Eve.

The minute-long clip, uploaded on Facebook by a certain Noider Almanza Barraza, has been making rounds online since Friday, sparking outrage from Filipinos.

In a live interview with Wurtzbach via satellite, "Umagang Kay Ganda" host Anthony Taberna asked the reigning Miss Universe if she was hurt by the said viral video.

"Nabalitaan ko 'yun," said Wurtzbach. "Nag-research po ako nang konti. Nalaman ko na tradition nila, every New Year, sinusunog nila 'yung bad memories para 'di na maulit sa susunod na Bagong Taon."

Wurtzbach explained that while she may not be accustomed to such traditions, she understands that it is customary in Colombia and other Latin American countries.

"'Yan ang kagandahan ng Miss Universe e, may matututunan ka tungkol sa mga customs ng ibang bansa. 'Yung iba, medyo nakakagulat pero ganun talaga," she explained.
