DAVAO ORIENTAL - Located at the easternmost portion of the Philippines, Pusan Point in Caraga town is said to be the best spot to witness sunrise.

On Dec. 31, 1999, residents and tourists assembled at Pusan Point in their attempts to see the millennium sunrise. But while the gloomy sky then prevented great views of the new century's sunshine, Pusan Point remained to be a favorite tourist spot nearly two decades later.

Pusan Point still offers the same breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean, picturesque rock formations, and cliffs towering over huge waves.

The area features a number of attractions such as a sundial, swimming pool, and an old lighthouse where guests can learn the history of Pusan Point.

BREATHTAKING VIEW OF THE EAST COAST

In Mati City, locals and tourists pass by an overlooking coastal village that resembles a sleeping dinosaur.

With the scenic view it provides, the Sleeping Dinosaur island is a perfect backdrop for taking photographs.

This year, other than sightseeing, tourists can now explore the Sleeping Dinosaur through the newly discovered Dino Trail.

From the national highway, a habal-habal (single motorcycle) ride for P100 will take you to the coastal village of Dawan— the starting point for the activity.

The 20-minute trek lends the hikers with a breathtaking view of the beach, which makes it suitable for first-time hikers or sightseeing tourists.

On the hike along the arm of the Sleeping Dinosaur, the mountain ranges of Davao Oriental becomes visible, set against the landscape of mangroves, fish pens, and the clear waters of Pujada Bay.

To avoid trekking on slippery and muddy trails, the tourism office has advised guests not to visit the Dino Trail during the rainy season. Hikers are also reminded to bring water for hydration and to bring their trash as they leave.

Located at the Southeastern portion of the Philippines, Mati City in Davao Oriental can be reached through a 3-hour drive from Davao City.
