MANILA - Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina turned emotional on Friday's episode of the ABS-CBN morning talk show "Magandang Buhay" as she received messages of support from her siblings.

Medina shed tears as her brothers expressed their support for her via a taped message aired on the show.

Her younger sister Ferica, meanwhile, made a surprise appearance on the set of "Magandang Buhay."

"Sana you have the strength and courage to fight for the crown (I hope you have the strength and courage to fight for the crown)," said Ferica, who was the one who encouraged her to join Binibining Pilipinas.

"I really wish you all the best in life. God really has a purpose why you won, so make the Philippines proud," she added.

For her part, Medina thanked her family for helping her prepare for the next Miss Universe pageant, which is set in the Philippines in January 2017.

Medina is eyeing a back-to-back victory in Miss Universe after Pia Wurtzbach's win in 2015.
