MANILA – Miss Philippines Air Kiara Giel Gregorio finally broke her silence about her decision to turn down the Miss Philippines Earth title.

Gregorio, who finished first runner-up, was the next in line as Miss Philippines Earth following the resignation of Imelda Schweighart early this week.

On Wednesday, however, Carousel Productions president Ramon Monzon announced that it is second runner-up Loren Mar Artajos who will replace Schweighart.

Gregorio took to Instagram to explain her decision to retain her Miss Philippines Air title, saying she would like to continue her studies.

She is currently a law student based in London.

“For the past few days, I have chosen to keep my silence because I felt torn. I have dreamt of the Miss Philippines Earth title ever since. However, I strongly believe that God blessed me with the Miss Philippines Air title on June 11 for a reason, because he has a better plan,” she wrote.

“As I always say, I see this journey not as a destination but as a mission in creating a culture of change and transformation in the lives of many. For that reason, I will be continuing my duties as Miss Philippines Air 2016 and still pursue in creating this change through my advocacy campaign, One with the Earth.”

Gregorio also thanked pageant organizer Carousel Productions “for giving me the opportunity to continue my reign and fulfill my duties here in England and in the Philippines as your Miss Philippines Air 2016 while pursuing my studies.”

In another post, Gregorio congratulated Artajos, saying she knew from the beginning that she deserves the title.

“Your humility and passion towards our cause just proves how deserving you are of this title. I knew it from the beginning. This is yours, you got this! We love you! On behalf of your 45 other MPE 2016 sisters, congratulations!” she wrote.

“All hail the new queen!” she added.

With the Miss Earth 2016 pageant is already over, Artajos is set to fulfill the remaining obligations of Schweighart, who failed to qualify in the Top 16.

She is expected to work closely with newly crowned Miss Earth Katherine Espin of Ecuador.
