ATHENS, Greece – Athens is a city steeped in culture and history, with remnants of ancient Greek civilization present at almost every turn.

The obvious starting point for a first-time visitor is the Parthenon, an impressive 2,500-year-old temple built in honor of the Greek goddess Athena. It is perched on top of the Acropolis hill, overlooking the city.

Just below the Parthenon and its neighboring temples is the Acropolis Museum, opened in 2009, which houses artifacts found in the archeological site.

But, of course, there is a lot more to Athens than the Acropolis. One day is not enough to enjoy the sights and flavors of the city, from the quirky Monastiraki flea market to the vibrant nightlife scene in Plaka.
