MANILA - Actor and incumbent Bulacan Vice Governor Daniel Fernando is leading against fellow actor Phillip Salvador, his closest rival in the race for vice governor.

Based on the partial and unofficial Commission on Elections (Comelec) Transparency Server, as of 9:49 p.m., May 9, 2016, Fernando was leading with 718,381 votes while Salvador had 263,240 votes.

Willie Villarama, another candidate for vice governor, had 63,465 votes.

This is not Salvador's first attempt to enter politics. In 2001, the veteran action star ran for vice mayor of Mandaluyong City but lost.

Fernando, on the other hand, started as a Provincial Board Member before winning as vice governor in 2010.

Meanwhile, Fernando's long-time ally, incumbent Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, was also leading the gubernatorial race with 587,620 votes, followed by former governor Josefina Dela Cruz with 341,293 votes.

Both Sy-Alvarado and Fernando are running under the Liberal Party while Dela Cruz and Salvador are with the National People's Coalition (NPC).

A total of 11 candidates are vying for the highest seat in the province.
