Political analysts believe the Liberal Party (LP) should have firmed up its call to unity to the camp of presidential aspirant Senator Grace Poe in a bid to challenge the lead of presidential frontrunner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Political science professor Edmund Tayao from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) said Roxas' message was wanting of a definite plan.

He added that in a tight political race, breaking a seeming impasse and forming an alliance should also count in political machinery.

Following previous attempts to broker a deal between Roxas and Poe in Malacañang, Tayao noted Roxas' call to unity on Friday was a test on the convening power of President Benigno Aquino III.

University of the Philippines (UP) political science professor Dr. Aries Arugay said with the political careers of the candidates at stakes, the chance for unity may be too late.
