Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago has made a vow before the Filipino youth.

In her opening statement at the third and last leg of the PiliPinas Debates 2016, the 70-year-old Santiago said: "My emphasis will be on the youth, the young people of this country. I've always loved the young people, and I will never fail them in the next six years."

Santiago, who is running under the People's Reform Party, said that under her leadership, there will be uniform rule of law.

"There will be a uniform rule of law, not the rule of men or of people who bribe judges and the other arbitrators in litigation," she said.

She also promised to modernize the country's agriculture sector, improve infrastructure, and provide better equipment to police and military forces.

"In the field of peace and order, the police and the military will have bigger budgets and will have better training and will have better equipment," said Santiago.

The country's economy will also be devoted to construction and reconstruction, she added. There will also be what she calls an "alternative city" near Clark, Pampanga to provide "freedom from congestion."

Santiago, who is seeking the presidency for the third time, has not been very visible in the campaign trail with her running mate, Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., due to her health condition.

She even failed to attend the second presidential debate last March 20 because she underwent clinical trial for a new anti-cancer pill.

Santiago, however, has not been tight-lipped on issues hounding her political rivals, particularly what she calls the "scandalous" amounts they spend for their election campaign.

She also recently questioned the credibility of voter-preference surveys conducted by private pollsters which show her as the least preferred presidential candidate of voters.

Santiago cited surveys conducted among university students which show her as the youth's top choice for president.
