QUEZON CITY - Nineteen new names have been added to the Bantayog ng mga Bayani (Monument to the Heroes) Wall of Remembrance on Wednesday.

The symbolic landmark pays tribute to the heroes and martyrs who contributed to the toppling of former president Ferdinand Marcos' dictatorship.

Here's a look at the lives and sacrifices of the 19 new names that have been etched in gold on the black marble walls.

He briefly lost his way in his teenage years when he figured in several school brawls, became a frequent drinker and engaged in the use of illegal drugs. He eventually found his purpose when he was tapped to organize the youth for anti-drug campaigns and sports contests.
Chuck eventually organized larger protests that involved pushing for laborers' rights and fair treatment, as well as efforts to raise awareness of the Marcos government’s excesses.
In 1980, a military agent shot him in the face and left him to die in a garbage dump in Cavite. The bullet went through his cheek and out his throat, but Chuck survived the incident.
Two years after, Chuck and his farmer friend were ambushed by soldiers. They were captured alive, but their dead bodies that bore several gunshot wounds were paraded in front of the San Jose Panganiban municipal hall in Camarines Norte.

He led other students during rallies and community outreach programs. He also wrote critical pieces against the Marcos administration.
He was last seen alive in General Santos City in August 1983. His family was informed of his death weeks after a funeral parlor told his father that the military asked the body to be buried sans a casket.

After earning her degree, she continued to contribute in raising awareness about the evils of the military rule through her work as a professional journalist.
Post-Martial Law, Chit wrote for several newspapers and helped establish the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ) and the Vera Files. She also taught at the University of the Philippines until she died from a vehicular accident in 2011.' data-title='LOURDES P. ESTELLA-SIMBULAN

She was also crowned Miss Philippines and represented the country in the Miss World pageant in London.
She joined the underground movement after the declaration of Martial Law. She was arrested in Baguio in 1974, but was able to escape from prison.
The former beauty queen eventually joined the New People's Army where she was known as “Ka Dolor” in Bicol and “Ka Lily” in Central Luzon.
In 1984, she gave voice to women who were against the dictatorship by co-founding Gabriela and Women for the Ouster of Marcos and Boycott (WOMB).
After the dictatorship was toppled, Maita continued to form and take part in several socio-political groups. She was also a professor at the University of the Philippines–Manila.
She succumbed to a fatal heart attack in 2012.' data-title='MARGARITA F. GOMEZ

She co-founded the Philippine Daily Inquirer after Marcos called for a snap election in 1984. She eventually became the Inquirer's editor in chief and led the newspaper to earn several recognitions post-Martial Law.
Letty has been regarded as one of the influential figures who greatly contributed to the restoration of press freedom in the Philippines.

He was critically injured when two grenades exploded during the Liberal Party's proclamation rally at Plaza Miranda in 1971. He survived the blast but was left with a damaged eye and impaired hearing.
When Martial Law was declared, Ka Jovy provided free legal assistance to political prisoners, including his fellow senator Aquino.
Ka Jovy was arrested in 1980 for allegedly plotting an assassination attempt against Marcos. He was released by the government but was charged with subversion.
His family relocated to the United States, but immediately went back to the Philippines after Aquino’s assassination at the Manila International Airport.
Post-Martial Law, Ka Jovy once again ran for public office and consistently topped the senatorial polls. He was named Senate President during his third term, but was ousted in 1991 for rejecting a new bases treaty between the Philippines and the Unites States.
He faded away from the political arena after he lost his presidential bid in 1992. He opted to focus on civic causes and established several organizations including the Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation.

He continued to be a part of the anti-Marcos movement and was taken by his comrades in the military into a safehouse where he was isolated and interrogated for two years. This “period of enlightenment” molded Dan into becoming one of the toughest anti-Marcos leaders during Martial Law.
Dan was also known for submitting a thesis in 1971, recommending the Philippines to form alliances with China and abrogate its ties with the United States.
He died due to complications of prostate cancer in 1998.' data-title='DANILO P. VIZMANOS

He left his job at the press to join the underground movement during the height of Martial Law. He continued to be a journalist, but wrote for different Leftist publications instead of mainstream newspapers.
Tony, along with other journalists-turned-activists, represented the National Democratic Front during the peace talks under the administration of Corazon Aquino.
After the talks between the government and the NDF failed, Tony and his family sought and was given political asylum in the Netherlands in 1988.
