DAVAO CITY - Sara Duterte-Carpio on Monday said her role as presidential daughter will have to take a backseat as she focuses on her responsibilities as mayor of Davao and mother to her kids.

Duterte-Carpio, the daughter of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte, said wearing another hat would be too much for her, which is why she is choosing to concentrate on her role as Davao City mayor.

“Parang ‘di ko na kaya kasi nag-aalaga ako ng mga anak ko at may trabaho pa ako sa city hall,” Duterte-Carpio told reporters here before her oath taking.

“Kung ano man ang mga special requests for me na gagawin ko, di na siguro [ako mag-take ng] another job, position or role pa.”

Duterte will replace her father as Davao City mayor on June 30. She won by a landslide in the election, garnering a phenomenal 576,677 votes.

She took her oath of office before Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 16 Judge Emmanuel Carpio Jr.

Duterte was accompanied by her husband, fellow lawyer Mans Caprio, and her mother Elizabeth Zimmerman.

Zimmerman, for her part, said she will also stay outside the limelight while her former husband leads the country.

“I don’t have any role… I will stay with my children here in Davao City,” she said.

Zimmerman, nonetheless, said she will help in Duterte’s charitable programs, especially those involved in helping cancer patients. The president-elect’s former wife is afflicted with Stage 3 breast cancer.

Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, clarified that she and the rest of her family will continue to accommodate journalists, in the wake of the tiff between her father and members of the press.

“Sa amin, wala. Wala kaming problem sa media. Kung ano man ang stand ni mayor, it does not apply to us,” she said, referring to her father’s decision not to grant interviews in the meantime.

MOTHERHOOD

Duterte earlier told ABS-CBN News that her biggest challenge as a politician is motherhood. The newly installed mayor has two kids: Sharky, 7, and Stingray, 3.

"The biggest challenge of being a politician is motherhood. It’s time management. Yun yung pinakamalaki. Kaya ganito kami. Hindi ko sila maiwan. Hindi ko maiwan more than one night. Kunwari, aalis ako. One night lang, kailangan kong bumalik," she said.

She also said she does not want to become First Lady because she wants to focus on her work as mayor.

The younger Duterte was elected vice-mayor of Davao in 2007 and then mayor in 2010. She did not run for any elective post in the 2013 polls.
