MANILA – James Reid confirmed reports that his girlfriend, actress Nadine Lustre, will indeed join him in his upcoming movie “Pedro Penduko.”

Reid, however, refused to give any details as to what character Lustre will portray.

“Yes, she will have a role in Pedro pero nope, [we cannot give clues] yet,” he teasingly said.

The report first came out early this month when Viva Entertainment released a video online citing director Paul Basinilio as the source of the confirmation.

Asked how his preparations for the movie are going, Reid said: “Training is so fun. I am learning a lot every day. I feel like a kid playing with weapons. It’s really difficult. My legs are killing me. It’s really hard.”

Reid said he is also happy to return to acting since it has already been months since the ABS-CBN series “Till I Met You” ended.

Has he seen the previous adaptations of “Pedro Penduko?”

“I’ve seen clips, yes. But it’s a different story. It was rewritten for a comic book. It’s a new Pedro. The comic book was released in the New York Comic Con 2016 and that’s the story that I will portray,” he said.

The big-screen adaptation of "Pedro Penduko," which will feature a re-imagined version of the popular talisman-wielding Pinoy superhero, will be helmed by Dan Villegas.

Reid was announced as the newest actor to take on the role last August, inheriting the mantle from the likes of Janno Gibbs and Matt Evans.

It will be based on the new "Pedro Penduko" book written by Regene Estolatan under Epik Studios. In it, the next "chosen one" is a wimpy teen named Peter Harris, who was raised in the US by his adoptive father.

His official origin story is as follows: "Peter Harris feels like he doesn't belong. A Filipino who lived all his life in the US where he grew up being bullied since grade school. Now 20 years old, he has had enough and wants to escape.

"Just then, his adoptive father passes away in a tragic accident involving something supernatural that nobody can explain.

"It will all unfold to him when he goes back to the Philippines to look for his mother whom he hasn't seen since he was an infant. When he finds her, he learns that she has been a victim of a curse given by a ruler of Eastern Kasamaan.

"As he embarks on a journey to find a cure, he learns so much more than what he originally set out to discover. That he is no ordinary human, and that he may be the prophesied 'chosen one' who will save the entire town from the rising evil that threatens it.

"However, does a loser and a whiny wimp like him have what it takes to take on the role of the new Pedro Penduko?"

The modern twist aims to revitalize the dated imagery of the superhero for new fans.

A release date for the film has yet to be announced.
