MANILA -- Batangas congresswoman and multi-awarded actress Vilma Santos on Thursday shared some facts that her fans probably didn’t know about her.

Appearing on ABS-CBN's morning show, "Magandang Buhay" to celebrate her upcoming birthday on November 3, Santos gamely revealed some interesting bits of trivia about her life and career.

Here are eight things that people probably didn't know about Santos.

1. Why she always carried a hanky

Santos is usually seen carrying a hanky, even during her shows. According to Santos, it was her friend, veteran actress Coney Reyes, who gave her the idea to always bring a hanky.

"Security blanket. I don't know. Nagsho-show ako noon nung nakita ni Coney na pawis na pawis ako. Pinunasan niya. Sabi niya, 'Mula ngayon maghahawak ka ng panyo.' Mula noon ang panyong ito puwede akong masaya, umiiyak, naiinis, nagagalit, ito lahat ang sumasapo," Santos explained.

2. She also gives away hankies

Although she has made it a habit to always carry a hanky, she readily gives it to her fans if they ask for it.

"Kahit saan ako mapunta, minsan kapag nakikita nila ang panyo ko, 'Akin na lang 'yan, Ate Vi.' So ibibigay ko naman," Santos shared.

3. She is a Tondo girl

Although she is known for being kind and calm, Santos revealed that she's also a fighter.

"Tondo girl ako, tumira kami sa Bangbang. Akala niyo babait-bait ito, subukan niyo. Mabait ako, pero huwag niyo ako masyadong itutulak dahil talagang lalaban ako, " warned Santos.

4. She was a rebellious child

Having joined showbiz at avery young age, Santos admitted that there was one time that she felt so tired that she ran away from home.

"Since bata ako hindi ako nagma-manage ng pera ko, trabaho lang ako nang trabaho. So what's next? Dumating ako sa point na ayaw ko na. So, naglayas ako noon and I stayed in a hotel for years. Mga 20 to 24. Parang I just want to be independent," Santos said.

5. She wanted to be an artist

Had she not become an actress, Santos said she would still be working in the arts.

"Actually kung natuloy ko 'yung college ko, siguro kukunin ko either Mass Com or Fine Arts because I really love to draw. Not necessarily painting but drawing," Santos said.

6. She was a cheerleader in school

Aside from being a terrific actress, Santos is also known as a dancer. Santos said she was a cheerleader during her younger years.

"Lagi akong cheerleader, 'yung may mga pom-poms. Ako ay laging kasali, frontliner ako palagi," Santos said.

7. Yes, Bobot was her first love

Santos admitted that her love team partner Edgar Mortiz was her first boyfriend and her "first love."

"Alam niyo si Bobot, napakabait na tao niyan, kaya siguro he's blessed. Kaya lang that time sobrang higpit, my God! Magkaroon lang ako ng kaunting plunging na neckline, lalagyan niya 'yan ng panyo. Umiksi lang ang palda ko, lalagyan niya ng panyo. Talagang ang higpit ni Bobot noon sa pag-aalaga talaga," Santos shared.

8. The conservative Darna

In 1973, Santos first donned the Darna costume in the movie "Lipad, Darna, Lipad!" According to Santos, she had to wear bodystockings because at that time she was studying in a school run by nuns.

"Pinayagan lang nila ako, gagawin mo 'yan pero naka-bodystockings," Santos revealed.
