MANILA -- Comedian and "It's Showtime" mainstay Vhong Navarro is known to be accommodating to interviews, but never on the subject of his "love life," which he has managed to keep off the limelight.
Speaking with "Showbiz Inside Report" host Joey Marquez, the 36-year-old Kapamilya star explained his strict preference not to discuss his current girlfriend in interviews.
"Dahil ang girlfriend ko ngayon eh non-showbiz... Ayoko nang madamay pa siya kung anumang intriga," Navarro said.
The "Gagamboy" star has two children, one with former wife Bianca Lapus. The former couple's marriage was annulled in 2008, 10 years after they tied the knot following the unplanned pregnancy.
Recalling his dance group Streetboys was at its peak at the time, Navarro said, "Nung time na 'yun, parang, 'Anong gagawin ko ngayong may nabuntis ako?' Paano ko sasabihin kay Direk Chito (Roño, who formed the group)."
"Kasi syempre, malay mo, baka pwede ako tanggalin sa grupo. Nilihim ko muna for a while kasi artista si Bianca eh. Hinarap ko si Direk Chito. No'ng sinabi ko sa kanya na ganito 'yung sitwasyon, 'Sana bigyan pa ako ng pagkakataon,'" he said.
As his career unfolded, Navarro became one of the more popular members of Streetboys, having starred in several films and TV series. These include the ongoing "It's Showtime" and the weekend sitcom "Toda Max."
Asked what he considers to be a lesson from his "failed relationship" with Lapus, Navarro said, "Mali talaga para sa akin na mag-asawa ka nang bata. Kung gusto mo mag-asawa ka, sa tingin ko 'yung tamang edad, may tamang trabaho, para maipang-bubuhay sa pamilya mo."
