MANILA - TV host and talent manager Boy Abunda said he sees nothing wrong with the idea of requiring celebrities to undergo a drug test.

He believes that members of the entertainment industry should not be given special treatment as the government continues its campaign against illegal drugs.

"Tayo at titignan dapat bilang mamamayan. Kung ito ay ginagawa sa iba't ibang sektor ng lipunan... Why would we expect special treatment?" he told ABS-CBN News and other members of the media during an event for his endorsement, TechnoMarine watches. "So kung ito ay kinakailangan, bakit hindi gawin? That's my stand."

When asked if he thinks that suspected drug users in showbiz should be named, Abunda replied: "I respect that, nabasa ko 'yung stand ni Binoy (Robin Padilla). I respect that. Ang akin ay what is done to one sector should be applicable to all."

"Let's not impose anything that we cannot impose on ourselves. Kung patas ay patas ang laban. Ang pakiusap ko lang, sana ang vetting process, ang pag-imbestiga ay mabusisi," he added. "We are a public business, reputation is at stake. Kahit hindi ka naman nasa show business, reputation is reputation. So kung ano ang ina-apply doon sa ibang sektor, if it has to be applied to the business of showbiz, then so be it."

Padilla previously said he does not support the idea of naming celebrities who are suspected drug users.

Meanwhile, Abunda said he will ask his talents to undergo a drug test once the government requires it.
