MANILA – Cloie Syquia Skarne, the half-sister of KC Concepcion, admitted that joining a beauty pageant is something she has always wanted to do.

The daughter of Gabby Concepcion with former magazine editor Jenny Syquia is set to compete in the upcoming Miss Universe Sweden by the end of the month.

Currently, she is in the Philippines to train for the competition under the same people who helped Pia Wurtzbach win the coveted Miss Universe crown.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe, Skarne said chose to train in here because “everyone here is so supportive.”

“I think that’s something that drew me here. And also, there are really good trainers here as well. I think that that could really help me in the Miss Universe Sweden pageant,” she said.

“It’s been fun," she said of her training. "I’ve been training on walking and question and answer and I’m learning because I didn’t have any training before this pageant. I have no background so it’s all new. I’m just learning all the basics that I’m going to have to need.”

Skarne said she draws strength and confidence from her family who are her biggest supporters.

But does being part of a family of celebrities here in the Philippines also add to the pressure?

“I just think it’s great to try to live up to the expectations although it is hard as well. If anything, it just helps me, motivates me and makes me work harder for my goal,” she said.

If she wins in the pageant, Skarne said she is looking forward to returning to the Philippines next year.

“It will be extremely exciting to be in the Miss Universe pageant that’s going to be here in the Philippines which is also a country that is very close to my heart,” she said.
