MANILA – Charlie Puth, best known for hits like "One Call Away" and "Marvin Gaye," explained how he ended up dubbing a scene on "Everyday I Love You" which eventually led him to inviting actress Liza Sobrano to his concert held at the KIA Theater on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe, Puth said he doesn’t really know anything about Soberano but he caught her movie while resting at his hotel room ahead of his concert over the weekend.

“I didn’t know who Liza was. I turned on the TV. I was relaxing on my hotel room and there was this very dramatic scene. I just had the idea of like, okay Charlie narrates on Snapchat,” he said.

Puth admitted he was initially worried that people would think he was making fun of Soberano, but the common reaction of netizens was the complete opposite.

“Everyone thought it was pretty funny. I’m just an idiot, it is what it is. I didn’t know who she was and now I do so I was like, ‘You might as well come to the show,’” he said.

Puth said in jest that he only realized that Soberano is famous when he saw that she has more Twitter followers than him.

Asked if he has any message for the actress, Puth said: “Liza, it’s nice to meet you over Twitter. I’ll see you soon. I don’t really know you that well yet but I’d like to.”

Meanwhile, Puth shared why the Philippines is special to him.

“Philippines is special [because] that’s where ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’ was made. That’s really kind of my sound,” he said referring to his last visit in the Philippines in October 2015.

As for his message to his Filipino fans, Puth said: “You are the reason why I’m more massive now. I’m so happy about that. It’s really inspiring to me to create more for you and to all my fans. Thank you for your continued support and I will see you again.”
