MANILA – TV host and former MTV VJ Donita Rose revealed that she and her husband Eric Villarama have decided to stay together after admittedly going through a rough patch in their 12-year marriage.
Speaking with entertainment site PEP.ph, the former “Umagang Kay Ganda Host” shared that they were ready to sign their divorce papers when God gave her a sign that they should save their marriage.
“Lagi kaming nag-aaway and lagi kaming nagkaroon ng miscommunication, especially with the distance between us. So minsan mas madaling bagsakan siya ng phone. Na-build up na 'yung galit namin sa isa’t isa hanggang sa I realized or we both realized that we’ve almost lost each other, and what for? At the end of the day, parang what do we want?” she said.
Admitting she is still in love with her husband, Rose said: “I realized, if I love someone with all my heart, I need to humble myself. Kahit sabihing mong kasalanan niya, kasalanan ko, it doesn’t matter. We both need to humble ourselves.”
Rose said she and Villarama now regularly communicate with each other even though her husband is living in the United States.
Asked about their current set-up, Rose said: “We’re planning to finally, for once and for all, get back together, living in the same country na hindi puwede paganun-ganun.”
Aside from the welfare of their son, Rose said it was a mutual decision not to end their marriage.
“That should never be the reason. In love naman ako sa kanya and in love siya sa akin. Willing naman kami patawarin ang isa’t isa. But we’re taking it one step at a time. I don’t want to say na parang everything is 100 percent a bed of roses. In every marriage, there’s going to be trials pero sa ngayon, and siguro since April until now, almost three months, we’ve been very happy,” she said.
Rose and Villarama got married in Santa Barbara, California in June 2003. They have one child, 10-year-old Joshua Paul.
