MANILA - Ilocana beauty Chatterlie Mae Umalos was crowned the first ever grand finals winner of "Gandang Babae 2014" during a live episode of "It's Showtime" on Saturday.
Umalos, who hails from Ilocos Sur, bested 14 other finalists, as well as heavy favorite and 1st runner-up Julee Ann Mae Cabrera, who already won Best in Long Gown and Best in Swimsuit.
Maraming salamat," a tearful Umalos said afterwards.
Aside from the crown and the title, she also took home the grand cash prize of P300,000.

'Haplos ng Diyos'
During the question and answer portion of the contest, Umalos managed to impress with her meaningful yet lenghty answer, drawing praise from one of the judges, director Cathy Garcia-Molina.
The finalists, for their part, were tasked to give out a message to the women viewers using the words, "haplos," "tubig," "isakatuparan," "kinabukasan," and "pagtanggap."
Umalos' answer then drew applause from both the program's hosts and judges, with Molina pointing out that she had something similar in mind.
"Hawig tayo [sa sagot]. Bongga. I am amazed kasi kailangan ng bilis ng pagiisip. Next time lang, try to be more concise. Pero otherwise, it's a good answer," the judge said.
