MANILA -- It's no secret to fans of Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia that the onscreen couple recently had a rough patch in their relationship, which they only finally addressed, on camera, after they resolved it.

That happened in an April interview on "Tonight with Boy Abunda," where Barretto admitted Garcia was in the process of earning her trust again, after a screenshot showing the neophyte actor initiating a conversation with another woman through private message circulated online.

In their first joint press conference since, for their upcoming film "I Love You, Hater," Barretto and Garcia were once again made to address the controversial episode, this time with their co-star Kris Aquino doing an impromptu interview with the rumored couple.

Aquino, who was seated alongside Barretto and Garcia during the media launch on Monday, took it upon herself to host a comeback "talk show" to have the rumored couple answer, finally, whether they are officially together.

Garcia readily answered "yes" when asked by Aquino whether he loves Barretto, but was less forthcoming about the label of their relationship. The former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate said they would give the confirmation "sa tamang panahon," or in the right time.

This led Aquino to asking Garcia to at least promise to Barretto that he would stay faithful, in light of the recent controversy that had beset their relationship.

Garcia turned to Barretto, who was seated beside him: "I'm sorry if nagkaroon ng mistake, but I promise to be a better man for you, for us."

Earlier in the press conference, the two also took turns in identifying the last person who they loved and hated, in reference to their movie's title. Both alluded to the "mistake" that Garcia had made.

"Sarili ko," Garcia said. "May nagawa akong mga desisyon na mali, siyempre sarili mo pa rin 'yung kailangan mong mahalin. Tinuruan din ako ni baba na mahalin ang sarili ko."

Gesturing towards Garcia, apparently to signal she was referring to him, Barretto answered: "There are some decisions na the person you love will make, or made, or will make, but at the end of the day, nangunguna talaga 'yung love mo for the person. You may hate what they're doing, but it can never overcome the love that you have for the person."
