MANILA — Actor Richard Yap was trailing in his first bid for Congress, based on partial and unofficial results on Monday.
The Tsinoy celebrity, who ran under the administration PDP-Laban, was second to reelectionist Raul del Mar (LP), going by 0.26% of transmitted data as of 6:15 p.m.
Del Mar, who is seeking a third and final term as representative of the 1st District of Cebu City, had 312 votes, while Yap had 217.
Florencio Villarin (IND) and Boboy Dungog (IND) both placed third with 9 votes each, according to the same transmission.

Yap, who became a breakout star and a sought-after leading man via the 2012 series "Be Careful with My Heart," had the backing of big-name co-stars in his campaign for a congressional seat.
His leading man status was seen as a boon to his political bid, which was banking on Yap's experience as a businessman.
