MANILA -- Barbie Imperial admitted that it took a while before she and JM de Guzman became comfortable with each other on the set of their upcoming series “Precious Hearts Romances: Araw, Gabi.”

In fact, she said that her first impression of de Guzman is that he is "masungit."

“Kasi hindi siya tumatawa masyado. Pero nakuha ko naman po 'yung kiliti niya. Sa taping po kasi, minsan lang siya mag-smile,” she told reporters on Monday.

When asked how she broke the ice between them, Imperial narrated: “Ang ginawa ko, pinansin ko siya ng isang beses lang, hindi katulad nung dati na, ‘Uy kamusta 'yung araw mo?’ Siguro hinanap-hanap niya 'yung ganun. Tapos sabi niya sa akin, ‘Bakit hindi mo ako pinapansin?’ Pa-hard to get.”

To his defense, de Guzman said he was just internalizing his character every time he is on location.

“Kaya ako ganun kasi 'yung character ko is ganun. So kapag nasa set ako, tina-try ko na i-imbibe na rin sa sarili ko. 'Yun lang 'yun. Ang hirap mo kayang hindi mapansin,” he told his new leading lady.

Meanwhile, the two revealed that they have a number of daring scenes on the show. Were they immediately at ease doing these scenes?

“May ilang noong sa workshop po pero napaghandaan naman po [naming ni Barbie yung scenes],” de Guzman said.

Imperial, for her part, confessed: “Siyempre po nung una, iniisip ko pa lang po, medyo naiilang na po ako. Kasi hindi po ako sanay sa ganung role. Pero nag-workshop po kaming dalawa so nung nag-taping po kami, medyo okay naman po.”

The actress said her rumored boyfriend, actor Paul Salas, also doesn’t mind that that her character is a little more mature for her age.

“Actually si Paul po 'yung nagsabi sa akin na mag-audition ako para sa role so supportive siya,” she said.

Imperial said an opportunity like this doesn’t come very often. That’s why she is willing to do everything to prove herself as an actress.

“Dati po hindi naman po ako bida. Dati nga masaya na ako kapag nakakapagsalita ako sa isang teleserye. Hindi naman po lahat nabibigyan ng chance na mabigyan ng ganitong klaseng break. Sobrang thankful ako and happy,” she said.

Directed by Theodore Boborol, “Precious Hearts Romances: Araw, Gabi” will start airing on ABS-CBN beginning April 30.
