MANILA -- Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men expects their Pinoy fans to "join in the fun" when they perform in Manila for the first time next month at the World Trade Center in Pasay.

The band, whose concert is scheduled for May 12 at the World Trade Center in Pasay, has appeared in various music festivals around the world from the Glastonbury to Lollapalooza and is also part of this year’s Coachella Festival.

They are expected toperform hits from their chart-topping album "My Head is An Animal" like "Dirty Paws" and "Little Talks," as well as cuts from the more recent "Beneath the Skin" such as "Crystals" and "Wolves Without Teeth."

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Of Monsters and Men frontman Ragnar Þórhallsson talks about the band and their upcoming visit to Manila.

How did the band name become Of Monsters and Men?
A: We entered an Icelandic battle of the bands back in 2010 called Musiktilraunir and we needed a name to put on the registration form. At the moment, we were reading a lot on serial killers and twisted human behavior in general. It was inspiring in a weird way. Humans are capable of so many great things but for some reason we tend to do the opposite. Anyways, the name “Of Monsters and Men” felt fitting so we went with it.

What were your musical influences as a band when making 'My Head is an Animal'?
A: We were all listening to different things -- Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Radiohead, Raveonettes, Massive Attack to name a few. It was a mix.

How would you introduce your music to first-time listeners?
A: I’d play it for them and allow them to come to their own conclusions. It’s hard to label your own music since you’re always trying to push yourself and you never want to get stuck in one place. By labeling yourself, you’re kind of making that harder for yourself.

How did the new album 'Beneath the Skin' differ from 'My Head is an Animal'? Any new influences?
A: I’d say it’s heavier. It’s more dependent on the drums and the bass. It’s also a different take on the lyrics. We wanted to be more honest and a bit more introverted.

What can Filipino fans expect in a Of Monsters and Men show?
A: We usually just try to have a lot of fun on stage and we go all out. Since we’ve never been there before, we’re definitely going to be playing a lot of songs from both of our albums. I’ve heard the crowds are really good there so I’m hoping they’ll join in on the fun.

Gold (P3,000++) and VIP (P4,500++) tickets to Of Monsters and Men Live in Manila are available via Ticketnet, SM Ticket outlets and website.
