MANILA - Throughout her career milestones and now as she performs on the international stage, one thing has remained constant for KZ Tandingan: the unconditional love and support of her family.

The 25-year-old singer, who is dubbed the industry's "Soul Supreme," entered show business in the grandest way -- to deafening applause as she was announced the first-ever winner of "The X Factor Philippines" in 2012.

At her side then was her family -- her father Tex, mother Marites, and siblings Irmo and Beauty. Six year later, as Tandingan competes once more, this time against fellow superstars in China's number one television show, her family remains her foremost source of strength and encouragement.

This, a tearful Tandingan brought up after she watched a clip of the "X Factor" audition that started it all. In that video, amid loud applause from the audience, judge Martin Nievera declared, and rightly so: "A star is born."

The video was initally meant to prompt reflection on Tandingan's evolution as a singer, but the Cornerstone artist, upon seeing her family in matching shirts cheering her on, was instead overwhelmed with emotions: a mix of gratefulness and longing.

They're based in Tandingan's home city of Digos in Davao del Sur, where much of their life, including work and education, are still rooted. Despite the distance -- the Kapamilya star's work entails her to stay put in Manila -- Tandingan makes it a point to communicate with them every day.

While watching her "X Factor" audition, Tandingan at first appeared composed, but by its end, she could no longer hold her tears as she spoke of the role her family has played in helping her achieve her dreams, and pursuing a new one on a bigger stage watched by hundreds of millions.
