MANILA, Philippines -- Actress-host Toni Gonzaga confirmed that former "Pinoy Big Brother" Robi Domingo will be part of the much-awaited singing show "The Voice of the Philippines."
"Robi Domingo is going to be part of the show and he is going to host the social media part of the program," Gonzaga told reporters in an interview on Thursday.
"If you are aware of 'The Voice' sa States, 'yung umi-ere doon, they are very active on social media, sa Twitter, and Facebook. So 'yun naman ang iha-handle ni Robi. So he is also part of the show," Gonzaga added.
In the interview, Gonzaga said she was really surprised that she was chosen to be the main host of the show.
"Everything was also a big shock to me when it was handed over to me. I've heard about the show last year pa at never kong naisip na magiging part ako sa mga choices or mapagpipilian ako na maging host ng programang ito," said Gonzaga, who previously hosted another singing competition "Pinoy Dream Academy" for two seasons.
"Kaya when director Lauren Dyogi told me na they want me to host the show, hindi pa nga ako naniniwala kasi I thought baka gusto nila ng bago na they want to groom or they don't want my service. Pero I'm really thankful na naibigay sa akin ang programang katulad ng 'The Voice' because it's one of the biggest and ultimate singing contests of ABS-CBN," she said.
Best known for hosting "Pinoy Big Brother," Gonzaga said it's a big challenge for her to host "The Voice of the Philippines."
Gonzaga, who's also a singer, will be the Pinoy counterpart of Carson Daly, who hosts the U.S. edition of "The Voice" with Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton as the coach-judges.
"Mayroong challenge kasi bagong programa at siyempre maraming expectations kung paano ka makaka-deliver sa bagong assignment na ibinigay sa iyo. Pero more than the challenge ay nae-excite ako kasi I'm looking forward sa mga contestant, sa mga mahuhusay na singers na madidiskubre ng programa," she said.
"'Yung mga coaches namin, bigatin lahat. Excited ako sa banter nila and how they will train 'yung mga aspiring singers na part ng show," she added.
"It's going to be a fun show, hindi namin siya gustong bigatan. Hindi namin siya gustong kumplikado. Ihahain namin ito sa inyo as it is at ipapakita namin sa inyo ang husay at talento ng Filipino singers," she promised.
Asked if she has any idea of the other coaches aside from Sarah Geronimo, Gonzaga replied: "One thing I can assure you, we will have the best of the best.
On Wednesday, ABS-CBN announced that Geronimo will be one of the coaches of the singing competition.
