MANILA (UPDATE) - Globe Telecom and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) on Monday launched a 24/7 hotline service that gives its customers direct access to police chief, Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa.

The "Text Bato" platform provides a text and internet connectivity service that allows citizens to report crime incidents and law enforcement concerns to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Globe subscribers can send police concerns through 2286 while subscribers of PLDT subsidiary Smart Communications can send concerns by typing BATO (space), their message, then sending to 7444-2286.

Smart said a P1 fee will be charged for every SMS.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Globe, PLDT, and the PNP on Monday. Globe shares were up 1.19 percent to P2,034.00 while PLDT shares were up 0.66 percent to P1,819.00 on Monday.
