MANILA -- Philippine Airlines said Monday it expected operations to "normalize" this week after a stalled Xiamen Air jet on the capital's main airport affected 28,425 passengers over the weekend.

There were no immediate cancellations on Monday as PAL deployed planes to accommodate stranded passengers. The airline assisted 80 percent of those affected, said its spokeswoman, Cielo Villaluna.

"Mag-nonormalize na po 'yan as the day unfolds (It will normalize as the day unfolds), within the week," Villaluna said.

Replacement flights included 2 to San Francisco and another 2 to Los Angeles.

Villaluna reminded travelers leaving Monday to anticipate large crowds at the NAIA, which reopened at noon Saturday.
