MANILA -- Further interest rate cuts by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas will help jump-start credit growth in one of Asia's fastest-growing economies, a bank president said Friday.

Loan growth has been "across the board," with credit cards and auto loans leading the expansion, Security Bank president and CEO Sanjiv Vohra said in an exclusive interview with ANC's The Boss.

There is "still some tightness" in liquidity even after a 25-basis point cut by the BSP, partly due to a delay in the passage of the 2019 national budget. A reduction in the reserve requirement ratio for banks "will have a much quicker impact," Vohra said.

The bank recently rolled out "branch-lite," dressed down offices that target millennials and the younger market, he said. The branches will have "a little bit more color and a little bit more fun."

Security Bank will leverage on its partnership with Japan's Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group to offer customers a global perspective, particularly in connectivity.

The bank is looking to increase loan to companies, especially those participating in the government's infrastructure program.

Vohra, who assumed the top post at Security Bank last May, described himself as a "balikbayan," having served previously with Citibank Philippines.

"For me what really worked well in the Philippines, you need to connect from the heart. With Filipinos, once you get to the heart, you get to the mind," he said.

"The connection is extremely important before you get them to do what you want them to do," he said.
