MANILA - Commuters will not shoulder the P5 million fine imposed on Grab Philippines by regulators, the head of the ride-sharing service said Wednesday.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board fined Grab and rival Uber on Tuesday, citing violations of its operating license.

Grab Philippines country head Brian Cu said they were pleased with the outcome of the last hearing at the LTFRB, calling it "a positive sign that the regulators see the benefits of ride-hailing platforms."

The LTFRB is set to create a technical working group next week to study the demand for ride-sharing services and if the number of vehicles in the system should be capped.
