MANILA -- The meters on some 29,000 taxis will be recalibrated to reflect higher fares, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said Friday.

Taxis will charge P13.50 per kilometer on top of the P40 flag down rate. The P2 waiting time will be abolished in exchange of a P2 per minute travel time charge. The fares were approved in late 2017.

Only taxis that have hailing apps such as MyCab, will be eligible for a recalibration to discourage scammers, said LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada.

The scheduled recalibration of taxi meters coincides with the fare adjustments of ride-hailing companies in July.
