MANILA - Globe Telecom has secured a deal to provide free Wi-Fi connection in stations of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) along EDSA.

Globe on Thursday said it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to deploy wireless internet infrastructure in all MRT stations along EDSA.

Joel Agustin, Globe senior vice president for program governance, said the project aims to help address issues on mobile signals along EDSA, especially during rush hours.

The free Wi-Fi service is expected to benefit about 350,000 passengers for 30 minutes daily.

“By providing a reliable mobile and Wi-Fi internet connectivity, our customers will be able to catch up on emails, keep updated on online entertainment and other communication requirements to further enhance their digital lifestyle even while on their way to work or after work,” Agustin said.

Globe earlier said it allotted a 2016 capital expenditure of $750 million, bulk of which will be used to boost data capacity and expand network reach.
