MANILA - Ayala Corp said Wednesday its chairman emeritus, Jaime Zobel De Ayala, was honored by the Japanese government for his work in strengthening relations between the Philippines and Japan.

Zobel received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star on April 29, Ayala Corp said in a statement.

"The Government of Japan extends its sincere congratulations to Mr. Ayala, and hopes that he will continue to take an active role in further strengthening close relations between our two nations," the statement quoted the Japanese government as saying.

Ayala Corp's projects in Japan helped increase the confidence of Japanese investors to invest in the Philippines, the statement said.

In 2017, the Japanese government also conferred the same honor on the late businessman Washington SyCip.
