MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte’s economic managers on Tuesday touted his ambitious plan to rebuild the country’s infrastructure, ahead of a Southeast Asian leaders’ summit this week.

Cabinet officials showcased for a second time “Dutertenomics,” which aims to build new roads and railways to help sustain the country’s economic growth momentum.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez said the Philippines was at a “Cinderella moment,” poised to shift to an investment-driven economy and with millions of young Filipinos ready to join the workforce.

“This is the time to move decisively,” Dominguez said. “Fortunately, we have a leader capable of much audacity.”

“All the favorable factors are present. It’s time for a breakout,” he added.

The 50th anniversary ASEAN Summit this week is the first international summit to be hosted by the Duterte government since it assumed office in June last year.
