Alliance Global bets hotel expansion on tourism boom

MANILA – Alliance Global is expanding its hotel portfolio, hoping to cash in on the overhaul of the country’s tourism infrastructure, a company official said Tuesday.

Megaworld Corp. is opening Savoy hotels in Manila and Boracay, Lucky Chinatown Hotel in the capital’s old quarter, Alliance Global executive director Kevin Tan told ANC.

The company is also opening Marriott Courtyard Hotel in Iloilo City which shows how it has succeeded in bringing its township-style developments to the provinces, Tan said.

Travellers International Hotel Group, which is managing the group’s casino-resort business, plans to bring the Hilton and Sheraton brands to the country, and build a six-star hotel, he said.

Tan said the conglomerate hopes to have up to 12,000 hotel rooms by 2020.

“We’ve seen tremendous growth in our arrivals in the last two years. We’re also quite excited about the prospects of the airport infrastructure that the government is committed to build,” he said.
Hotel developments are also planned in Cebu, Bacolod and Tagaytay, Tan said.

Travellers is “cautious” on gaming in view of the slowdown in neighboring Macau but “optimistic” in the long term with as improved ties between Manila and Beijing will result in more Chinese tourist arrivals, he said.
