The World Health Organization (WHO) warned pollution around the globe has been worsening with 80 percent of the world's city dwellers breathing poor quality air.
The new study estimates pollution is responsible for seven million premature deaths annually.
After looking at air quality in 795 cities from 67 countries, the WHO said the most polluted cities are still in India and China.
WHO officials now urge governments to take action to reduce the negative impact of pollution on global health.
