MANILA—Water elevation in Angat Dam, the main source of water in Metro Manila, was measured at around 190 meters in March.

But in just 4 months, things took a turn for the worse for the rain-parched reservoir.

On Thursday, June 20, the water level in Angat slid down to 160.73 meters, a few centimeters shy of the 160-meter critical mark.

It is way below the 180-meter minimum level required for normal operations.

Lack of rains due to El Niño and high demand were blamed by regulators for the water supply deficit in Metro Manila.
